The transition from military to civilian rule that started
in 2011 has slowed down and reversed in some places. Actually, the name has only
changed, but not the people. The people who ruled the country between 2011 and
2015 were military generals. We, Burmese people never ever expect any goodness
from those military generals.
But in the end of 2015, the landslide victory of the
opposition National League for Democracy in the November elections may reenergize
reforms in some areas. All the Burmese people did highly appreciate and expect so much for the reform. The ethnic and religious minority expected very highly for
improvement of the human right sector from the NLD government. However, the NLD
government simply ignored the minorities’ right in their transition by using beauteous
words. The leader of the NLD said that we cannot force anyone by Laws or rules to
love someone. I do agree what the leader said, but the leader needs to bear in
mind that nobody can govern the country without a law or rule. The rule of law
is the integral part of
the country if any government really wants to achieve the peacefulness.
Despite a significantly improved environment for freedom of
expression and media. In key areas, the government’s commitment to improving the
human rights situation has faltered or failed. Discrimination and threats
against the Muslim minority in Burma, a manifestation of growing
ultra-nationalism, has intensified. The Rohingya Muslim minority continues to
face statelessness and systematic persecution.
The very first thing I would like to say which the
government need to tackle is the hate speech against ethnic and religious
minority. Another thing I want to ask the NLD government that who really has
the power, the monks or the police force. Polices are really priceless for the
country’s peace and tranquility, but polices become useless in front of the
monks.
As a conclusion, the Burmese people and the ethnic and
religious minority have never expected any goodness from the previous military
government, but we do anticipate so much from the NLD government.
Please don’t let us
down, NLD.
If there is a will there's a way.
